The Sounds of Time

Sculpture design: Tim Vincent - Smith

A grand piano stands alone in the middle of open space. One corner has been sand-blasted away to reveal an interior topography of the flesh, bones and sinews of the piano’s inner workings. Partial destruction references the historic fire in the market. Nearby meat and fish stalls are also resonant with the visceral aesthetic of the piece. Ultimately the beauty of the revealed wood grain speaks of the simplicity and universality of the passing of time.
