Piano Meant-A-Lot

Sculpture design: Tim Vincent - Smith

An allotment shed made entirely from old pianos and piano parts houses a beautiful old playable upright piano. Empty piano cases lying on their backs filled with vegetables and flowers complete the bucolic idyll. Look closely and you can find clues to the history of the pianos that make the sculpture – swirly pencil marks made by the piano makers, a sticker with a telephone number for a piano tuner, decorative veneers and the dust of a hundred years. After a long and happy life where better for a piano to go than back to the earth where it can help promote new growth?

This installation has been created in collaboration with LEEDS ALLOTMENTS FEDERATION and HANNAH STAINED GLASS.
