Sound of Silence

Sculpture design: Tim Vincent - Smith

Piano string balls, like huge seed pods, hang from a tree referencing new growth. Elaborate geometric mobiles and puppets from various fascinating piano parts also hang from the branches. In the surrounding grass, another ‘floating piano’ sits by a small ‘singing ringing tree’ made from piano parts where people can hang their wishes. The overall effect is of a shrine of offerings to sacred trees which bear the wood from which pianos are made. This oasis of calm amid the bustle of the city offers the opportunity to rest and reflect. Like the materials and stories which make the pianos, the themes and ideas underpinning the sculptures on the trail are given space here to come full circle.
