There are now two Pianodromes in Edinburgh!

We are delighted to announce the ‘soft’ opening of the Pianodrome Bruntsfield Community Hub, where we have installed our original Grand Pianodrome in the St Oswald’s Centre in Bruntsfield. The space opens on Friday 24 October and will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10-5pm and in the evenings for one off events. Pianodrome Granton continues to serve as home to the Old Royal Pianodrome, our Adopt a Piano showroom (open Saturdays 10.30am-3.30pm), weekly piano dismantling sessions, monthly Pianosharings and one-off events.

Pianodrome Bruntsfield Community Hub

In close collaboration with The St Oswald’s Centre charity who bought this beautiful but neglected building from the council in 2020, Pianodrome are helping to bring the old church nave back to life and open the doors of this extraordinary space as a thriving community centre. Like an old piano that needs a good tune and a fix to play beautiful music again this old church hall needs a whirlwind of creative energy to once again pulse with creativity.

As well as musical concerts of all kinds, Pianodrome Bruntsfield Community Hub will host a wide variety of activities such as workshops, talks, open rehearsals, theatre performances, yoga and meditation, dance workshops and after-school groups. Around the Pianodrome there will be space for exhibitions, installations and a cafe. We hope, with your help, to make this a welcoming creative community space for all.

So far, with the help of over 600 hours of amazing and much appreciated volunteer labour and much needed funding from Creative Scotland and Foundation Scotland, our team have torn up the old, scuffed, grey lino floor and sanded and varnished the beautiful boards beneath to a shining golden finish. The heavy black curtains are away from the colourful stained glass windows and together we have cleared, cleaned and dusted away almost a decade of disuse. With an award from ECCAN (Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network) we have the green light to run a series of free workshops to design and build the interior from piano parts and fill the space with beautiful, useful, upcycled pianowood furniture.

There is still loads to do and we would love you to get involved. If you are interested to help please email volunteer@pianodrome.org. We are running a crowdfunding campaign from the 5th November to the 15th December. Please consider helping us raise funds to fully activate the Bruntsfield space with new efficient lighting, heating and a bespoke piano cafe.
